"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16,
In line with his unified theme, “Let your light shine”, IP John Choa’s has announced monthly emphasis themes and among these focused on Community Service as primary emphasis in 2004/05. “Community Service” is our name for the basic assignment of Y’s Men: To the best of our ability and skills strive to achieving our common purpose: “..to build a better world for all mankind” through active service “based on the teachings of Jesus Christ”.
This programme is designed to connect the primary emphasis, Community Service, with community oriented monthly themes - thereby creating additional momentum and synergy to both (see Sample action plan). The programme will suggest how to translate the monthly themes into action-oriented activities, encouraging particularly clubs to opt for one or more of the themes.
Sample action plan:
Club X opts for promoting the special emphasis of February 2005: Time of Fast. After consulting with the Y’s Men International website and the Regional Service Director for Community Service, the club makes plans for a “Time of Fast” week in its local community, involving:
- An appeal for support, presented in a poster exhibition in the local shopping mall, as well as flyers and a press release illustrating TOF projects and the idea of “give a meal”
- An offer to schools for a presentation of TOF projects supported with power point or video
- A Time of Fast march through the town to the city hall square.
- As individual Y’s Men: To help family, friends and neighbours - as well as to contribute to our club’s service programmes,
- As clubs to plan and carry out service to our community – as well as contribute with ideas and funding to regional and international service programmes,
- As regions, areas and international to initiate, coordinate and perform service at national and global level.
Vision
By the end of Y’s Men Year 2004/05, we will be seen locally and regionally with
a clearer profile in the service of our communities, thereby also securing
increased support for our work and projects and stimulating the interest in
becoming part of Y’sdom.
