Goat Raising and
Dispersal Project"
Asuncion, Philippines
TOF 95-04
This project was conceived by a group of women in the district of Asuncion as a means of relieving the poverty of the many small farmers and their families, many of whom are so poor that they cannot afford to send the children to school. While the men are busy on the farm, the women and children take turns in tending the goats.
A goat house has been constructed to house the male hybrid goats which service the female native goats and it will also house the goats returned by the loan recipients. It is planned that each of the beneficiaries will receive eight goats and in two to three years the goats to be given to them will be upgraded. After a year of implementation, some of the first batch of recipients are now ready to pay for the goats loaned to them. Payment takes the form of two goats in addition to those loaned.

Although it is too early to tell a success story, the women involved are already optimistic that through this project they can help to meet the daily needs of their families and improve their lives.
