YMCA Child Care Centre
Makati, Philippines

 TOF 97-2a

“The Children’s House” provides day-care and early childhood education for the children of lower middle class working mothers. Two scholarships have been granted to children from poor families. Music, art and movement are interfused in the early childhood programme and the centre meets the children’s physical growth needs in addition to stimulating their mental and physiological growth. The children are taught to respect each other and their country and to thank God for all his blessings.

Plastic aprons are worn for water activity during individual work time.

Dancing and singing action songs during Music and Movement release the children's energy.

The children learn the importance of cleanliness and are taught to wash their hands properly before meals and brush their teeth afterwards.

Alphonso is the youngest of seven children, born when the eldest was graduating from college. Much adjustment was needed for the family to cope with the demands of a newborn. When Alphonso started pre-school last year his behaviour was negative and he showed no desire to learn. During the first few weeks there was a dramatic improvement and now he is attentive and obedient and an active participant. That once insecure boy has become a source of pride for The Children's House.

At Christmas Alphonso takes his role as one of the
Kings very seriously.
