Mr Svend Erik Nielsen, from Denmark, has been elected International Treasurer for 2025–27. He takes office with immediate effect following an extraordinary election held to fill the vacancy left by the late Mr Erik Breum.
Joining YMI in 1997 as a founding member of the Y’s Men’s Club of Hedens, Herning, Mr Nielsen has played a key role at every level of the movement – from Club Secretary and President, to most recently serving as District Governor for District Storaa. He is currently chairing the Host Committee for the 2026 Regional Conference in Denmark.
Professionally, Mr Nielsen brings over five decades of experience in international finance and management. He has served as Chief Financial Officer in several global shipping companies and is currently Business Development Manager and CFO at Uni-Tankers A/S. His board-level leadership includes numerous commercial, investment, and charitable organisations, demonstrating a breadth of expertise in financial oversight and strategic governance.
His YMCA roots run deep: a member since 1968, he has held leadership roles in youth work, sports associations, and his local church in Herning, where he continues to serve as treasurer of the church council.
Mr Nielsen is passionate about YMI’s international character and its Christian foundation. He believes in the power of global fellowship and cross-cultural collaboration, and he is committed to strengthening financial stewardship and developing sustainable strategies that will enable the movement to grow and thrive in the years ahead.
