PIP David G. Morris
71st International President – 1996/97
21 October 1935 – 4 February 2024 (88 years)

The International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs is mourning the loss of Past International President Mr David G. Morris, who died on 4 February 2024. He was 88 years old.

The funeral will take place at Fergusons Funeral Home in Moncton on Monday 12 February 2024 at 2:00 pm.

David’s journey with Y’s Men International commenced in 1954 with his membership in the Moncton Club, marking the beginning of an extraordinary commitment spanning over six decades. He later became an integral part of the Saint John club, where he not only led as Club President in 1970 but also continued his active membership until 2020.

After graduating from Chatham High School in 1953, he embarked on a career that saw him rise through the ranks of SNAP-on Tools of Canada Ltd., and later, Cody’s Ltd. His ascent culminated in achieving the role of President in 1972, a position he held until 1987. David’s career trajectory further ascended as he took on the mantle of Chief Executive Officer at 96028 Canada Inc., demonstrating his exceptional capability in guiding organisations to flourish. His tenure in these roles underscored not only his professional expertise but also his visionary leadership and strategic foresight in navigating business challenges.

His dedication to Y’s Men International and his extensive involvement in various capacities, including Club President of the Moncton club in 1960, International Director for the  Maritimes Region in 1963/64, International Service Director for Young Adult Work from 1964-66, and Canada Area President and International Council Member from 1993-95, underscore his profound commitment to our organisation.

In 1996/97 he was honored to become the 71st International President. Together with his wife Clare, he always felt privileged to travel the world and lead the Y’s Men’s mission of service.

David’s unwavering dedication extended beyond YMI, as evidenced by his contributions to the YMCA, where he served as a Board Member for both the Moncton and Saint John YMCAs and the Saint John YMCA/YWCA Advisory Board.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of over 66 years Clare; his daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and John and Beth and Lorne; and his daughter-in-law Lisa. Dave was a much-loved grandfather to Jennifer, Ryan, Rebecca, Cody, and Lauren and a proud great-grandfather to Charlotte. Dave is survived by his brother William “Bill” and nephews Dean, Bill and Alan. He was predeceased by his beloved son Jim, his brother-in-law Bob and his sisters-in-law Irene and Dale.

Rest in peace, PIP David G. Morris.
